Major Snow Today

Just when we thought ice fishing would start early a huge storm came though dumping up to 18 inches some places.
The small lakes were froze, but this snow will really screw them up till we get a thaw. Many places had ice and by this weekend thought it would be safe but now we will have to see.
FROM PILGRIM VILLAGE FISHING SHOP
We??re ready for ice. Are you? We get several calls a day wanting to know if were on the lakes. Most know that Lakes Mitchell and Cadillac traditionally have safe ice before most other lakes.
Currently, all of Lake Mitchell is covered with skim ice. The west side of Lake Cadillac is skimmed over but the east half has some open water with shelf ice along the shore line. Lots of ducks are bobbing in the open water.
Smaller lakes in the area are glazed over.
Neither Lake Mitchell nor Lake Cadillac is safe yet.
However, someone has to be first, even if it isn??t safe. Thanksgiving Day, Chris Hansen and Brian Brown tipped toed to about 8 foot of water on Lake Cadillac. They??re pictured getting ready to set their tip-ups. Note the open water in the background. They??re on shelf ice in a protected corner. Chris usually places 1st or at least in the top 3 of our Spearing Contest. We??ll see him again if he survives the soft ice.
We??re excited but it??s early and we have to wait. Weather predictions are for cooler weather but also more snow. See pictures of both lakes. They tell the story better then words.
Great news for Spear Fishermen!
The following changes were approved at the November 6 Natural Resources Commission meeting. ??The Spearing Season for pike and muskie will now run from December 1 - March 15. Instead of just January and February and the whitefish spearing season will now be open year-round. These regulations take immediate effect.?
Great news for the Dark House guys. Lakes Mitchell and Cadillac are known for the numbers of pike and big pike.
Sign up for the 7th Annual Pike Contest at the Pilgrim Village Fishing Shop. Great prizes and no fee, but you must be registered before fishing.
