his walleye was caught last weekend near Green Island in the Western basin of Lake Erie. I was told it is 38″ long and weights 18 lbs which would be a new state record. What a Fish. — with New state record.

This is an individual, one-day, total points tournament on HAMLIN LAKE. A point value is given to each fish based on length and species, not by weight. Participants must sign-in at the tournament check-in line no later than 5:00pm for measuring of fish and calculation of points. Check-in line is located at the Hamlin Grocery live bait building. Measuring of fish and calculation of points will be conducted by a designated committee. The committee’s decision is final!!

Fife Lake Ice Fishing Derby

The Rock is no longer hosting the Derby so the Chamber has picked up this event.

Today reports from Portage, Hamlin, Pentwater Lake, White Lake, and Crystal Lake is fishing is really slow with very few fishing and a couple that went out and not get any bites. Also the snow is so deep it is hard to get around on the lakes.

Wish I had better news

Let the haters come out, but this kid can fish! Kyle McClelland of XXL Chrome Chasing hit up the river (in Northern Michigan) for an hour after class yesterday and managed to get this beautiful buck on a pink spawn bag cured in pink BorX o Fire cure under a float!! It was 6 degrees outside.

Yeah… This picture kind of sums it up.. Lol As you can see, it’s the dead of winter in Northern Michigan. High of 9 degrees for the weekend, with wind chill temps in the -10-20’s…. Video games??? Well, maybe, after we put a hurtin’ on some Michigan Steelhead!

Reports today has Lake Missaukee with 9″ of ice, Houghton Lake with 9″ inches of ice, Lake St. Helen has 7 tp 9″ of ice. Wiggins and Pratt Lake have 7 to 9″ of ice. Lake Margrethe has 9″ of ice along with Otsego Lake. Manistee Lake by Kalkaska has 7 to 9″of ice also.

The deeper lakes have just froze and will not be ready for another week. Burt is not safe and Mullet is open.

Green Lake finally went over last night and should be ok in a week. Skegemog, Long Lake, Duck lake, Cedar, Lake Leelanau will be ready next week with safe ice.

Portage lake is completely froze and some are venturing out by oneckama, but but just went over so be careful.

Cadillac and Mitchell they have been running quads and fishing has been fair.

Wixom Lake is completely froze and has safe ice except where there is strong current, the pike and gill fishing has been super this week
