Baitman

The adventures of the Baitman

Quick update:

We are looking spectacular for ice conditions.Folks are fishing Crystal and Green, probably Big Glen as well. Ice is developing on Torch as we speak. Here is to hoping the bays lock up for us too. Good chance of that and it’s always fun when it does. I’ve seen some huge walleyes and lake trout at the weigh come out of the bays. It has only happened twice in the last 7 Interlochness events. There are still some remaining 10 dollar gift cards left so get into TCH Gear and register. See MoreSee Less

Bait Man’s Morning Briefing

Over the weekend, the extreme cold really slowed fishing down as far as how many people were willing to get out. There were some hard core anglers still going, but overall it’s been pretty slow with those temperatures.Houghton Lake was fair during Tip Up Town. Not lights out, but fish were caught if you put the time in. A lot of the bigger lakes have now froze up. Crystal Lake is froze, and they’ve been getting out off Lobb Road with reports of good lake trout fishing. Burbot and smelt have been slow there. There were some perch caught off Railroad Point in town, and a few guys picked up some trout by Cold Creek. They’ve been getting out on Big Glen and catching perch. Elk Lake is froze now as well, with some perch reports and a few lake trout mixed in. I have not heard yet if Torch Lake has fully gone over.Mullett Lake, Black Lake, and Burt Lake have been fair for walleye and perch. Nothing crazy, but steady enough for guys sticking it out. They are also now getting out on Pere Marquette Lake, White Lake, and Muskegon Lake. Reports coming in have been good for pike, perch, and some bluegill in those areas.Weather wise for today, it stays cold. Highs only in the teens, light wind at times, but still cold enough to keep activity down. Travel conditions are decent where snow hasn’t piled up.Tomorrow warms just a touch, highs creeping into the upper teens to low twenties. Still cold, but a little more manageable than what we just went through. As far as the moon goes, today and tomorrow we’re still in the last quarter phase. That usually means shorter feeding windows, mainly early morning and late afternoon. With the cold, bites have been quick and subtle. That’s the weekend wrap and what I’m hearing heading into today.
