The rain in Northern Michigan did not hurt the ice and might of helped it as it knocked the snow down so it can freeze solid for better walking and no slush to bog snow machines.
Higgins Lake is finally reporting a good smelt bite the last two nights with some reports of a couple hundred smelt per group. The perch, whitefish and lake trout are bitng fair
Long Lake by Traverse has been slow as they report real murky water from the last warm up a couple weeks ago.
North Lake Leelanau has reported a good perch bite the last few days.
Big Glen they are catching perch but many do not want the do the mile (death walk) to the hole. They are reporting you never know when the bite will start but when it does you really catch some nice size perch and they are using big blues.
Lake St. Helen they are catching walleye, panfish and pike.
Crystal Lake there is a great Lake Trout bite with most jigging with pimples or sandkickers (whitefish jigs). Also the perch have ben biting but lots of small perch.
Portage Lake has been good in the deeper water for perch and whitefish. Good pike and walleye in the evening
