We just love it when people complain about how cold it is! Day and night the is ice is growing. Good, solid, clear ice. Permanent shanties are returning to lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. Anglers report 7 to 9 inches of solid ice on Lake Mitchell. Jiffy auger time!
Lake Cadillac has less but it catching up. Reports vary 4 to 6 inches. Use of your spud may keep you from stepping in an old hole. Currently there’s a light dusting of snow. It’s still slick. Be prepared with creepers. More snow may be coming.
Meet Walleye Pro Mark Martin January 20, 2-3 P.M. at the Carl T Johnson Hunting Fishing Center in Cadillac. You’re invited to a Free Public Seminar. Boost your catch freequency. Also hear from some of his sponsosrs – Direct from the factory. Arrive early for a seat.

Panfishing numbers really haven’t improved. Those using electronics do the best. Only a few bluegills so far. Crappie have taken over the neighborhood. Their size is improving. Expect mostly eaters in the 7 to 9 range but lately we’re seeing a few in the 12/13 inch range.

Also no ice south of Ludington as Pentwater, Whitehall and Muskegon have open water. Hamlin is shaky with open water in the middle
