On my travels today around Traverse guys are getting out on Big Glen, Crystal and Lake Leelanau catching perch most places and whitefish on Crystal. Wigglers and minnows working best, big blues for the bigger perch.
Kalkaska the action seems to be on Skegemog with a good perch bite reported.
Grayling reports real slow out on Margrethe the last two days.
Higgins Lake the smelt are biting steady the last two days at night and during the day. The ice is in great shape with quads driving everywhere with a few trucks also. The perch have been biting off the sunken island, west rd. and off of Kelly Beach. Whitefish and Lake trout have been fair in 80 to 100 foot of water guys are catching smelt then using them on tip ups, also sandkickers have been catching whitefish, it has slowed down but today it was better.
Houghton Lake was busy with guys driving there trucks everywhere. Bluegill, crappie and perch have been biting. Guys are catching the bigger perch on big blues, crappie on minnows and wax for the gills. They are still catching huge gills but it has slowed as limit catches have been hard to come by this week. The best places seem to be the middle grounds, Muddy Bay and off the high school and Elks Club.
Lake Missaukee had a pretty good crowd today with trucks driving out from Green Rd. Gills have been biting on waxworms, crappie on minnows.
