FISHING CONDITIONS ON LAKES CADILLAC AND MITCHELL
FROM PILGRIM VILLAGE FISHING SHOP

Looking for ice? We’ve got ice! The warm temperatures and rain has changed conditions, but we still have areas of good ice.

Traditionally Lake Mitchell freezes before Lake Cadillac and will have ice long after Cadillac opens. It’s the same with this thaw. Most areas of Cadillac, especially the East side are shaky at best. Lake Mitchell Coves and the East side Mitchell State Park areas have the best ice.
Fortunately cold temperatures are in the forecast. Nights in the teens and days in the 20’s, with snow showers. The ice will tighten for us but the snowmobilers are currently out of luck. We’re back to using our spuds to check ice conditions.
Creepers are a must!

Panfishing numbers really haven’t improved. Those using electronics do the best. Only a few bluegills so far. Crappie have taken over the neighborhood. Their size is improving. Expect mostly eaters in the 7 to 9 range but lately we’re seeing a few in the 12/13 inch range.

The evening walleye bite has picked up again. Limits are scarce but several in the 20 inch range are regularly reported. Jigging Rapalas are worth trying.
